The fire took Ronnie’s parents from him. The only person able to help him cope is Mr. Griffin, the long-term sub in his language arts class who spots Ronnie’s gift for writing and encourages him to explore it. 

Ronnie creates Illumina, a world full of magic and monsters. He also creates an alter-ego for himself. A warrior, a hero, strong and brave. Everything Ronnie believes he is not.

Everything is going great, until Ronnie’s fantasy world invades the real one. He’ll have to get his imagination under control – literally – especially if he’s going to become the hero he has always wanted to be.
