Jack Bass, MD is a US Army Veteran with long-term, sometimes severe, PTSD who has a lifetime habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, often inadvertently stepping into the middle of criminal plots. And he manages to do it one more time in this intriguing yarn!
Jack Bass was minding his own business as he was driving back from working at a medically underserved Indian reservation clinic when a reckless semi-truck driver tangles with Jack’s car on a rain-slickened highway. When Jack runs to the overturned truck cab, the driver commits suicide right before Jack’s eyes! What on earth could be behind such a drastic action? When Jack climbs down from the big rig and views the accident scene, he notices dozens of bodies hanging from the shattered wooden crates, labeled as “farm machinery.” This can’t be good!
Jack becomes even more confused when DHS agents soon arrive and try to confiscate his phone then chase away the state trooper that was at the accident scene. When the DHS learns that Jack lied to them about losing his phone at the scene they show up at the hospital and threaten him with imprisonment if he doesn’t turn it over. All in the name of national security is what they tell him.
Jack’s ire is raised and his curiosity piqued. He enlists the aid of his long time friend Wes Watley, a retired FBI SAC and Hank Green, a retired Green Beret to figure out what’s up. Wes brings along a past army colleague, Dr. Tommy Peel, a strong, confident woman who is an expert in bioterrorism and viral pandemics. What they uncover is something they never expected in their wildest dreams and shakes their faith in the country’s leaders to their very core!
