Semi-retired journalist Natalie Seachrist, her tortoiseshell feline companion Miss Una, and her new boyfriend Keoni Hewitt (police detective turned private investigator) have moved to a Lanikai cottage with expectations of a relaxing life. But their seaside bliss evaporates when Natalie experiences a horrifying vision of a moonlit garroting at a neighbor’s home. Again, she is forced to reveal her murderous insights to Keoni’s former partner, Honolulu Police Lieutenant John Dias. Hoping her unusual gifts may prove useful, John asks her to read the victim’s journals. While she is fascinated by the commentary, Natalie finds no clues to the brutal murder. Surprisingly, the crime soon appears solved by discovery of a nefarious suspect’s body at Diamond Head Beach. Feeling safe, Natalie and her new friends plan an outing to historic Kawai Nui Marsh, a favorite destination of Queen Lili`uokalani, the last monarch of Hawai`i. Unfortunately, their day of playing tourist soon devolves and Natalie finds herself caught in the crosshairs of an unexpected adversary’s weapon. Does resolution of the gruesome murder lie buried in the victim’s transnational past…or does it lie among her seemingly innocuous companions?
